Appreciate where you are in life.
Being a good person should come naturally, some days are just more challenging than others.
Everyday we work with coworkers and run into other people that we may or may not know. It’s an opportunity to make someone’s day with simply a smile or an honest ask of how’s your day going? If it’s going well, it’s pretty easy and if it’s not, it’s time to listen and be empathetic with their situation. Keeping a positive outlook followed by a smile, can be contagious.
So, what if your day is not going so great? Maybe you have a coworker or friend you can discuss it with. If not, take the situation and put it into perspective. How big is the problem and is it something you can solve? If possible, break it down and work the problem in smaller pieces. Maybe a conversation with your boss asking for guidance or suggestions on how to handle the problem makes sense. Keep a positive attitude and don’t get discouraged.
Take some time to reflect on who you are and who you are to other people. Life’s a journey meant to be experienced and as time goes on, certain people become more important to us and we to them. Appreciate those around you and be thankful to those people that have made you who you are today. Think about everyone who influenced you along the way, such as your parents, mentors who took time out of their day to teach you valuable skills, coworkers who support you and many others.
As a gigging musician, I take the time to appreciate the venues who hire me and the patrons who support me. I never take it for granted and work to maintain that trust and relationship everyday. Be a good person and be a humble person. You are where you are because of all the people that have helped you along your journey. Be that same person to someone else, who may be starting their journey. Have an awesome day.
