So what do you do after the gig is done?
Gigs vary wildly in terms of the day of the week and the time of the day. The after gig activities can vary as well. Let’s talk about it.
I have a lot of evening gigs, which typically run from 6 to 9 pm and sometimes 7 to 10 pm. After the gig is done, taking down the gear and packing out can run anywhere from 1/2 hour to 45 minutes depending on the amount of gear I use for the gig. Travel time home can range from 10 minutes to and hour and 15 minutes. I use the travel time to think about what went well at the gig and also what items I could improve upon for the next time.
Once I arrive home, the next decision is to either unload all the gear and take it to the studio or leave the gear in the car and only pull a few items. If I have another gig the following day, I tend to leave the gear in the car. Unload time varies from 5 to 15 minutes.
So, what gear do I pull, if I am leaving most of it in the car for the next gig? I pull out my acoustic guitars and all of my wireless devices. Next, I remove all my rechargeable batteries and gear and place them onto their chargers. Now, time for a sugar infusion, like a Brownie to perk me up. Gigging makes me hungry. Ha Ha.
Social media now requires my attention. I download all the gig photos from my phone onto my PC. Next, I create a Facebook post on my page, where I talk about the gig and how well it went. I sometimes create a reel from all the images and add music to it. I also cross post to Instagram. Now, it’s time to crash
If the gig takes place in the afternoon, quite often my wife and I stop for dinner on the way home. It’s a great way to wind down. The rest of the process remains the same. So, what’s your after gig routine? Have an awesome day. Cheers!
