Two stories in one today.
Billboard.com recently published a couple of great stories. Let’s get into it.
Story number one talks about another YouTube video hitting the billion-view club. The 2020 single Ice Cream video by Blackpink and Selena Gomez hit the billion view mark on YouTube. This is the eighth time for Blackpink and the fourth for Gomez. The video features a very pop sound and includes scenes with an ice cream truck and backgrounds that would rival Candy land. Of course, there are ice cream cones everywhere. A golden retriever makes an appearance as well as hundreds of pink balloons.
Ice Cream is the second single off Blackpink’s debut studio album. It spent 8 weeks on the Billboard Top 100 and peaked at number 13. It showed up at number 2 on the Billboard Global 200 and remained on the chart for 26 weeks. So far Blackpink has landed 11 songs on the Hot 100.
Story number two from Billboard.com talks about Green Day and its new SiriusXM channel called Idiot Nation. The dedicated channel will launch April 20th with drummer Tre Cool taking on the hosting duties. The show highlights the songs they love plus the groups that Green Day has toured with. The band goes on to say “We’re absolutely stoked to have our very own channel on SiriusXM to share all the songs we love. The ones that made us pick up guitars, pile into vans, and chase something loud and real.”
Idiot Nation also features Green Day’s early covers, demos and live recordings. In addition, the band will share personal stories from the studio and the road and talk about the artists that influenced them. Green Day joins artists like Kelly Clarkson, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles and many others who also had their own SiriusXM channel.
