It’s not just a stand.
We love our guitars and when it comes to setting them down after playing, what choices do we have? Quite a few actually. Let’s dig into it.
Every guitar is unique in its size, shape and weight. There are acoustic guitars, electric six string guitars and electric bass guitars. Each one has a different shape, weight and center of gravity, which is really the balance point of the guitar. If you are done playing, the best place for your guitar is back in its case. The reason is, it’s specifically designed to store and protect your instrument and investment. If it’s an acoustic guitar, it’s even more important, as your case provides the ability to keep your guitar at the right humidity level, especially when equipped with a humidification system like the D’Addario Humidipak.
What if you’re only taking a short break from playing? Placing your guitar into an open case lying on the floor is ok. However in my experience, if your strap is on the guitar and it’s still plugged into an amp, the fit isn’t great. A better option would be to place it onto a classic guitar stand. It’s one of the simplest methods to secure your guitar and it’s pretty inexpensive. The stand features three folding legs, two rubber coated lower support arms and one upper rubber coated neck support to cradle your guitar. The On Stage XCG-4 is that stand.
If you play more than one guitar and you’re a gigging musician, a multi-position guitar stand might be a better fit. I perform out with two acoustics and use a three position guitar stand, which allows me to separate the guitars with a free space in the middle. My stand is a K&M 17513 Guardian 3 guitar stand. It folds down and transports very easily. I like that it’s heavy duty and offers great stability for my guitars. It’s also very helpful, in that the touch surfaces are very soft and forgiving when you bump the guitar into them during removal and placement, especially in tight playing quarters.
The last way to support your guitar in my opinion, is really more of a way to display it. This method involves using a wall mounted hanger. String Swing makes the CC01K wall mount guitar hanger. It’s flexible enough to work with electric or acoustic guitars. If you have several guitars, hanging them all around your music room looks really cool. No matter what method you choose, protecting your investment just makes sense. Have an awesome day.
