HOW TO PROMOTE..

Mike Lucey Leaning on a Wood Wall

Promoting anything can be hard.

Promotion is really about getting the word out about something special. What’s special? It could be almost anything. In the music world, it could be a new single that’s ready for release. It could be performing at a venue. It could also be a fundraiser or benefit. So how do you go about promoting? Here is what I suggest.

The first task is to determine what your call to action is. So what is a call to action? It’s a action that you would like your targeted audience to take. It could be clicking on a link or signing up for a enewsletter. It could also be making a reservation to attend an event. Be very clear and concise on what you would like your target audience to do. Don’t ask for multiple actions, only ask for one. I would recommend looking at similar events, that also use a call to action to give you some ideas and then make it your own.

Once you have your call to action, now it’s time to think about what media you would like to use to get the word out. Think about your audience and what methods and media they use to keep informed about similar events. Do they use social media and if so, which one? Facebook, Instagram, X or other. Do they use the TV or Radio? Once you have narrowed down the media method, now it’s time to create the event.

If the chosen media is Facebook, it can be as simple as creating a Facebook book event. If the audience you are reaching out to uses the TV or radio, reach out to those sources to see what options are available to promote your event.

Now it’s time to create your promotional material. Images and video are both great tools to capture an audience’s attention. Choose them wisely. Create verbiage that describes your event and the benefits of why people should attend. It’s also helpful to benchmark what other groups or individuals are doing to promote similar events. Release your promotion materials and keep promoting it. Repetition is a large part of having a successful event. Do an initial release and then follow up with a second release, just prior to the event. Happy Promoting. Have an awesome day. Cheers!
