Today, I would like to talk about AI (Artificial Intelligence) and what it means to the song writing artist.
So we have all heard about AI and maybe even played around with it using Google Gemini or Microsoft Copilot. Kind of cool right? But what you probably didn’t know is that AI has been around for quite awhile. For instance, have you ever typed in the notes app on your phone or in an email program and noticed how it anticipates what you are trying to say? That’s AI and it’s getting better every day.
AI can be applied to song writing in a lot of different ways. It can assist in rhyming or phrasing options for a lyric, which can be helpful when you just can’t seem to find the right words. It can also analyze the entire lyrics for a song and create alternate versions that may be better than the original or at a minimum, inspire changes that take a good song and make it a great song. After a song has been recorded, It can also be used to assist in the mixing and mastering process, getting the levels and sound just right.
At the end of the day, AI is just another tool. It can automate time consuming processes and do them very well. To me, song writing is all about the art and my approach has always been the same. Write and rewrite the song, until I am happy with it. That way I am always offering the best product possible.
