Do you have people?
I'm not talking about the song “Guy for That” by Post Malone and Luke Combs although, what a great song. In life, there are people who stand by us not matter what. These are the same people who are there for us when we are having a bad day. They are also the same people who put up with our mood swings and the times, when we are less than our best selves. These are our people. How do you find these people?
These people are not necessary found, but more or less acquired through life. It’s starts at a very young age and it begins with our parents. These are the first people we have. Our mom was our friend, a teacher and a medic. She would always ask how we were doing and if we needed anything. She was also the first one there, if we fell off our bike and needed a band-aide. She also taught us to be compassionate and think about the other person’s feelings.
Then there is our Dad. He was the one we looked up to. He could build anything and there was never a problem, he couldn’t solve. I always thought he was an inventor, because of how he always had a solution for every problem. He was also the one, that pushed us to excel at everything we did and if we failed, he was there to tell us that it was ok and that we will do better next time. He also taught us to be rational and think through everything, before acting rashly.
Once we went to school, our people quickly expanded. Think back to elementary school and a new found friend that liked the same things you do. It could have been a red fire truck or an action figure, but you both thought it was cool. If anyone questioned the coolness of it, you both would defend it to the end. This was just the start. This trend continued throughout high school and college.
High school was filled with true love and heartbreak and tons of emotions. College was more or less a continuation. Some of our best friends came from this era in our lives. People who greatly influenced us and in some cases, are still with us today. As time went on, we added more people to our group. Even though the people may change over time, the support group never ends. So, take a look around and ask yourself. Do I have people? I bet you do. Have an awesome day.
