When it comes to amplifying acoustic guitars, it’s different. So, when do you need to amplify an acoustic guitar? Usually, a live performance at a venue or anywhere you need to play at an increased volume level. Here are some great options.
I have a Fishman Loudbox Mini acoustic guitar amplifier. Mine is slightly older, as it doesn’t have the Bluetooth option, other than that it’s identical. I purchased mine to use as a backup to my PA. It’s a substantial little amp and although it is only has 60 watts of power, it projects extremely well. It would do just fine at a smaller venue. Not only does it amplify my acoustic, it also has a second channel for vocals. It has basic controls for each channel with lot’s of flexibility. The guitar channel includes adjustments for gain, low/mid/high EQ, reverb and chorus, everything to bring out some great guitar sounds. The vocal channel includes adjustments for gain, low/high EQ and reverb. The sound is absolutely amazing out of this amp.
For larger gigs, there is the Loudbox Artist model with more advanced controls, including an effects loop for using external effects. It has 120 watts of power, an 8 inch speaker and two input channels.
Fender offers the Fender Acoustic 100 amplifier. This one looks great with its high-quality plywood cabinet and stained finish. It has volume, low/mid/high EQ and built-in effects on each channel such as delay, reverb and chorus. It provides the ability to record the performance through a USB connection to a laptop. It packs 100 watts of power and pushes it through an 8 inch speaker.
If you’re a busker (street musician) and you need to operate on battery power, Fishman makes the Loudbox Mini Charge acoustic amplifier. It has all the same great features as the Loudbox Mini plus a battery with 4 hours of life at full volume. That’s pretty cool.
