A wedding with a twist.
Weddings are a wonderful celebration of two people making a commitment for the rest of their lives. Such a beautiful experience, and one that doesn’t happen every day. The wedding ceremony is part one and then comes the celebration with family and friends and that is where the fun begins.
Wedding celebrations start with a great venue that incorporates both indoor and outdoor space to accommodate weddings year-round. The venue provides the ambiance for the celebration, the florist provides the color and the chef provides all the delicious food. But what about the music?
It used to be, music at a wedding was exclusively the province of musicians in the form of a band. The band could be four, five, or eight piece depending upon the budget for the wedding. Fast forward to today, a DJ service is the go to music choice for most wedding celebrations. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just different. But what if you could do both?
I recently performed at a wedding, where that very scenario played out. The venue was a beautiful historic lakeside Inn featuring an indoor space and a large outdoor patio covered with a tent. The diner was served inside and the fun was scheduled to commence outside on the patio. My job as a solo acoustic, was to cover the cocktail hour on the patio (during picture taking) and perform for the bride and groom’s first dance. The DJ handled all the MC work, the additional dances as well as the nighttime entertainment duties.
The music approach for the wedding turned out perfectly. The DJ and I worked well together and provided a great experience for both the bride, groom and all their quests. Perhaps, this is the start of a new approach to wedding music. I’m all in on this concept.
